E-MERG-ENCE EXHIBITION BLENDS DIGITAL AND STATIC IMAGES
HOUSTON (May 18, 2009)–Works by Lauren Kelley, Marc Newsome and Robert Pruitt are on exhibit at the Community Artists’ Collective, 1413 Holman in the Midtown Art Center Tea Room, through June 27.
E-Merg-Ence is an exhibit of short digital works and stills which brings together the thought-provoking social imagery of everyday lives with the fast pace commentary of the digital lenses of the artists. Still images from the social narratives are installed around the exhibition allowing for reflection on each video.
Newsome uses a host of actors as he tackles the changing of gentrification on the Third Ward community in “Here Comes the Neighborhood.” Kelley animates Barbie Dolls to reveal a black woman’s struggle with self image and unrequited love, and Pruitt animates a youthful skateboarder in full African dress.
The exhibit is on view Thursdays through Saturdays from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
The Community Artists’ Collective programs are supported in part by a grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance and through collaborations with community organizations. The Collective is a member of the Fresh Arts Coalition.
